[00:00:00] Speaker A: Foreign.
[00:00:16] Speaker B: Listeners, welcome back to the Troubled Men podcast. I am Renee Coleman, sitting once again in the heart of the Clempire, Snake and Jake's Christmas club lounge with my co host, the original troubled man for troubled times, Mr. Manny Chevrolet. Welcome, Manny.
[00:00:32] Speaker C: Hey, man.
[00:00:33] Speaker B: Hey.
[00:00:33] Speaker C: What is going on?
[00:00:35] Speaker B: Oh, you know, it's. It's just one of those nights, apparently, like, you know, they have. They're showing some films in the. The backyard here at Snake and Jake's. They. We have filmmaker Jason Affolder there at the end of the bar, his time code. Nola's back there and, and we have.
[00:00:51] Speaker C: They're showing his films.
[00:00:53] Speaker B: I don't know if they're showing his films, but we have a. A guest, a filmmaker as guest here tonight.
[00:00:58] Speaker C: We did not. Horrible film over the weekend, huh? That Tom Cruise movie, Digger, you're the guy who went. Yeah, I'm the guy who went, well,
[00:01:08] Speaker B: you were all excited about.
[00:01:09] Speaker C: And I was excited about seeing, well, the cler. Dave Clemens was excited about it. So he talked me and my wife into going, okay. And we went, uhhuh. And I got to say, Tom Cruise was very good in it. O people don't like it. And I can see why a lot of people don't like it. I didn't like it because at the end of the first act that the biggest cheap shot I've seen in recent memory from a movie happened, and I just was disappointed that they went that way. Really. It was a bad cheap shot and it was so. It was disappointing to me because I really was interested in it and it was a very satirical and stuff like that, and I thought Cruise was really good. But then the second act started, it was like, what is this? Oh, yeah, you know, it was a horrible cheap shot.
[00:02:04] Speaker B: Huh. So would you recommend that I go see it just for. For, you know, some.
[00:02:09] Speaker C: Well, you don't want to spend the money because you're cheap.
[00:02:12] Speaker D: Just going, I'm going tomorrow.
[00:02:14] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:02:14] Speaker D: But I don't have. I don't pay, so.
[00:02:16] Speaker C: You don't pay.
[00:02:17] Speaker B: You sneak in.
[00:02:18] Speaker C: You gotta sneak in.
[00:02:19] Speaker D: In one of my other lives, I introduced the classic movies at the Britannia Theater.
[00:02:24] Speaker C: Right, right.
[00:02:24] Speaker B: Yeah, you got it. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
[00:02:27] Speaker C: Well, you should go with him, Renee.
[00:02:29] Speaker D: You know, Manny, do you go to the movies a lot?
[00:02:31] Speaker C: No, not anymore.
[00:02:33] Speaker D: So when you go, it really has to be good.
[00:02:35] Speaker C: Well, yeah, I'd have to be really interested in going to it, you know, And I had heard all the bad press about it, but Dave Clemens talked me into it and I said, you know, I Like Dave, he's a good guy. Sure. So I went with me and the wife went with him, and we were enjoying it. But then it was a horrible, cheap shot at the second.
[00:02:54] Speaker D: They had you for half an hour Now I'm curious.
[00:02:56] Speaker C: They had me for the first act.
[00:02:59] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:02:59] Speaker C: You know, but then it was like, you know how, like, old horror films are filled with cheap shots? You know, like horror films, like, you know, the monsters behind the door and. And the heroines getting ready to open the door. And she opens the door. It's a little girl playing with toys or something. It's a different door.
It's cheap. Shot like that.
[00:03:17] Speaker B: Oh, okay.
[00:03:18] Speaker C: This was on a big, multi, bigger scale, though.
[00:03:21] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:03:21] Speaker C: You know, I mean, there's some good stuff. And I love that filmmaker. I've seen. I've liked a lot of his films.
[00:03:27] Speaker B: Who was that?
[00:03:28] Speaker C: Naruto.
[00:03:28] Speaker D: What's in A Ritu? He made Morris Perros. He made the Revenant, Birdman.
[00:03:32] Speaker C: Oh, yeah, he made Birdman, which was great. And the Peros movies, which I thought was fabulous, but, yeah, you know, go with your money.
[00:03:41] Speaker B: You've piqued my curiosity. I'll probably wait for it to come on a streaming service, but I definitely want to see it.
[00:03:46] Speaker D: The movie has been so badly received that they're using the negative reviews to market the movie.
[00:03:51] Speaker A: Sure.
[00:03:52] Speaker D: They're saying, decide for yourself. How can it be as bad as they say?
[00:03:55] Speaker B: Right, right.
[00:03:56] Speaker C: Well, you know, technically, it was. It's beautiful to look at.
[00:03:59] Speaker D: I mean, it's all the world's greatest cinematographer.
[00:04:01] Speaker C: Yeah, it's. It's. It's fair. But as a student, I just felt like, fuck you, man. You know, I've been. I gave you this first hour, and then you just slipped the rug underneath me. And it's like, maybe I'm not hip anymore. I don't know.
[00:04:16] Speaker D: Well, you know, the general complaint is that people think the movies are too derivative. They're all based on remakes and intellectual property. And then somebody takes a big swing. That's wildly original. And it's like, okay, we don't want that either.
[00:04:28] Speaker B: Oh, yeah.
[00:04:28] Speaker C: Well, that's it.
[00:04:29] Speaker D: I mean, it's possible to be too
[00:04:31] Speaker B: original, have another Marvel remake.
[00:04:33] Speaker C: Well, because, you know, just like we've said this before, Hollywood and Broadway, they don't have anything to make anymore. They just keep rehashing things.
[00:04:41] Speaker B: Right, right, right.
[00:04:42] Speaker C: You know, and I think there's this theory that good friend of mine told me that.
[00:04:48] Speaker B: And we're back. I am back from Walgreens. Back from My house Back from David Cooneyan's house. Shout out to David Kunian for trying to help us with a working zoom recorder. But we only have now about 45 seconds. So we're here with the great Henry Griffin. He has his new film, Brenda coming out shortly as being it's Henry. Tell us, when is it playing?
[00:05:11] Speaker D: All right, so I'm Henry Griffin, writer, director, producer of an independent film called Brenda. It's playing at the Britannia theater on Tuesday, November 3rd at 7:30. That's election day. So if you don't want to watch the election results, come out and watch this movie with me and the leading lady, Jamie Newman.
[00:05:28] Speaker B: And we're going to have you back for another one. We have 10 seconds left. And Manny, what do we say?
[00:05:33] Speaker C: Trouble continues constantly doesn't
